Purple Throw Beads
Mardi Gras throw beads are
traditionally thrown off of the floats during the Mardi Gras parades into the
crowds which come to watch and celebrate the parades. These throw beads are
collected and worn by the people who come to enjoy the festivities, and the
unique and outstanding strands of beads are treasured as a keepsake. The
traditional Mardi Gras colors are purple, gold, and green, and therefore the
decorative palette of Mardi Gras is illuminated in all forms. Most throw beads
from the Mardi Gras parade are strung with beads in patterns of purple, green
and gold. Because of the amount of decoration flooding the festival in forms of
confetti, masks, streamers, and especially throw beads, many people collect and
layer the throw beads.
Another way to wear the festive Mardi Gras colors besides in a pattern of beads
is to wear the colors by layering strands of different colors. Strands of
purple throw beads can be woven with strands of green throw beads and gold
throw beads to create a thick rope by twisting them together, or they can be
left as single strands around the neck which will shimmer and move as you dance
and celebrate. Purple throw beads are a necessity for celebrating Mardi Gras as
one of the major parts of the color scheme.
The traditional purple color of Mardi Gras is a deep purple color, so the
shades and various tones of purple do not really extend into the light purples.
This purple color is usually dark purple but bright and vibrant at the same
time. Because these beads are traditional in color they are usually sold in the
traditional spherical bead shape as well. These purple throw bead strands do not
usually deviate from the traditional bead pattern and color because they stand
alone for just that reason.
